Our Story

Hexagrid Line Equipment was founded in 2022 by Gary Smith, previously an apprentice now a Journeyman Lineman from Local 456 in New Jersey. Gary, a tech enthusiast from a family of very successful computer engineers, dedicated 20 years dabbling in 3D modeling and video game design. His passion led him to create countless projects, fueled by the belief that perseverance would yield success and people would love what he created.

After experiencing a life dominated by a computer, he ventured into a fresh, challenging new path. Intrigued by electrical linework, he dedicated himself to gathering all of the prerequisites to enter the trade. Two years later, he secured a spot in Northeast Apprenticeship Training (NEAT) and eventually became a Journeyman Lineman.

Upon entering the trade, Gary realized a few things pretty early on.  One, he has absolutely no mechanical dexterity, and two, there must be a better way.  More specifically, there must be a more efficient way to do things, especially in rubber gloves.  He understood that most linemen just get used to tasks being difficult in rubber gloves, but Gary refused to accept that.  He knew that he was meant to do linework for one reason.  To use his engineering skills to hopefully change it for the better.
